The breaking of the Kola- nut

The breaking of the Kola- nut

A Poem by Rubein Geterminah
"

The breaking of the kola- but portrays unity among Africans. And the Kwa ethnic group in Liberia are of no exception.

"
The breaking of the kola-nut
That is segmentally cut
Eating with beaten pepper
Followed by a cup of water by a helper
Among the Kwa
Lords of the aqua
Makes a stranger their own.

*Kwa- tribal group in Liberia noted for water rituals.

Author's Note

Rubein Geterminah
The Kwa tribal group in Liberia will only accept a stranger as their own if you have eaten their Kola-nut and beaten pepper; follow by a cup of water given by a helper.

The acceptance of the Kola- but as a stranger among the Kwa ethnic group in Liberia makes a stranger their own.
Refusal of their welcoming gift, makes them refuse a stranger/strangers.
