chapter No. 1A Chapter by Bailey
Day 001/365:
Jasper Wintergreen brings his car up the drive way of his girlfriends’, Lydia Bretons’, house and shimmies out of the car. He stands silently beside it waiting for her. A minute later she appears through the front door with a low v-neck t-shirt and short shorts that hug her sides, she looks sultry even with these plain clothing. She sli ps into Jaspers’ embrace in front of his old military jeep, he stamps multiple kisses onto her cheeks and lips which afterward encourages a smile from her, “Come on let’s head out.” Jasper softly whispers with a smile. Man! She looks amazing! Jasper discreetly thinks.
About five minutes later they zip into the school parking lot. They slowly stroll into the front hall of the school, when the bell rings the hug and say their goodbyes. He heads to the tech hall for his first period workshop class. When they finally start working Jasper is instantly indulged in his crafting, “Jasper, man, hey what’s up?” his best friend Walter Weston asks exuberantly. “Hey Walt, not much, I had to pick up Lydia this morning. What about you?” He replies absently engulfed in his work. “Ah, not too much, I’m going to Will’s party tonight,” Will is Jasper’s other friend, “You going?” “I don’t know man I got a huge test in two days...” He starts, “Oh, what the heck? Why not?” “Alright man, you bringing Lydia?” Walter inquires with a sarcastic wink. “Shut up you retard!” Jasper says with a sly smile. The classroom door is open and they turn to hear banging and shouting from the hallway, then a loud scream. A bunch of people with white jump suits come rushing into the room with gas masks on their faces and rifles in their hold, “Hey! What are you doing this is an education-” Mr. Wilson, Jasper’s shop teacher gets cut of as the people shoot several times and hit him in the chest. The people leave the classroom without explanation and move on, “What the hell is up?” Walter howls in horror. Jasper hustles to Mr. Wilson’s side; the teacher is already dead in a pool of sticky, red, crimson around him. “All I know Walt, is that whatever is happening is going to make our life pure hell.” Jasper replies solemnly. “Announcement to all students of Heclan High, please make your way to the auditorium for an address of what has just happen to all the teachers and adult figures in the compound.” An unrecognizable voice pipes up through the inter-com. Oh dear Lord who is in heaven please make me strong with what is to come... As all the students creep nervously down the main hallway to the auditorium. Jasper finds Lydia and holds her close as she sobs in his arms. Her sobbing shakes his body and makes him furious at the white suited a******s that created this nightmare. They will pay for their crude acts of violence that has scarred my Lydia. Jasper thinks angrily. He and Lydia find seats by Jasper’s friends he sits down beside Seth Westbury, his cousin and they look into each other’s eyes and know that there is something prodding the back of their mind that is saying that they, this group, needs to stick together through this traumatic experience. A man walks onto the stage wearing a distasteful plaid suit and clears his throat, “Attention please,” that makes us all stifle our sounds, “I’m sorry for your inconvenience in your schedule and the gory experience that you had to take into your young minds but, your school is now locked to the outside world and you will never be able to leave until proven not effected to the illness that is eating up the adults all around the globe. The virus strand B9J7 takes a whole year to become immune to and is an extraordinarily painful by the way it eats your organs from least important to critically important. B9J7 first gives you blisters that ooze with blood and its either you bleed to death or you lose you organs. We believe had this has been caused from the chemical spill last October and has cause multiple mutations of virus strands. Therefore you will have to live together throughout this year either in harmony or discord. That is all we can do besides provide electricity, food and water. Goodbye for now my brave children and see you in a year.” We sit and stare as the man and his accomplices evacuate themselves from the premises. Some people just stare blankly without expression, Some people start hysterically laugh as though it`s an insane joke but, most people look angry and determined. Day 008/365: It has all gone absolutely mad! Jasper thinks behind his locked dormitory door, “Come on, Jasper why don’t you just play like a good boy and pay your taxes.” A gang member from the Brims says mischievously. “How about you chew the hair off my a*s first!?” Jasper taunts trying to gain time. “You should watch your tongue fool; your words may cause your death.” The voice through Jaspers’ walkie-talkie blares, “Now!” and Jasper pulls the door open along with the child mobster. Now Lydia, Seth, Walter and Jasper are circled around the poor sap inside a random dorm. Seth pipes up, “We need some answers. Sorry, what’s your name?” “Hank, my name is Hank.” “Okay Hank, listen carefully, we need to know what happened to a friend of ours, some one important,” Hank nods to Seth, “Does the name Walter ring a bell?” Hanks nods furiously. “That’s a good boy, Hank. Well here’s the thing, Hank. We have seemed to have lost him in the last couple of days. Would you, by any chance, know where Walter is, Hanky boy? And if so, what has happened to our little buddy?” Seth is like a panther stalking his pray, getting ready to strike. “Uh, I think, uh . . . it was two days ago and um, he didn’t pay his taxes so Kassy sent out, uh, a few men to take him away. But, I have no clue where he is or if he’s even alive.” “Thank you Hank, you have been very, very helpful. But seeing as how you’re a Brim we cannot let you go and start yapping off to Kassy...” Jasper realizes with horror what Seth is getting at, “Hank, buddy got any last words?” “I’m sorry.” Hank says with his head down in shame then looks up to the heavens, “Lord, please forgive me for the evil that I have caused and the death that I have help spread upon this land.” Seth pulls out his baseball bat and pulls it back. He forcefully brings it down upon Hanks skull. He stops inches away from Hanks terrorized face. “Hank I forgive you... We forgive you.” Seth proudly states. It is almost ten o’clock at night and jasper is looking back upon the events that have occurred in the past eight days; on the first two days no one did anything but moped around, then on the third and fourth day Kassy Brims, Carl Richards and Harley Greenheart made their own tyranny over most off the school. On the fifth, Seth disappeared early in the morning, after that on the sixth and seventh day this small band of misfits and a few other kids began to quietly form a resistance in the shadows. Today in the market Jasper was hanging about with nothing to trade or anything for taxes when there was a surprise raid and he was caught empty handed. It turned out after Hank’s experience with Seth, Hank wanted to help us out with our small rebellion. Seth was reluctant at first but then decided that if we were to continue they need someone on the other side. They were camped out in a janitor’s closet for the night until things had calmed down and Jasper had enough things to get him out of his predicament. Lydia came over and sat down beside Jasper, “Jay, are you okay? You look torn.” “There is something that has been ripping on my brain ever since the third day, I had a huge fight with my sister... It was over something stupid.” He started to cry. “Jay, you didn’t know you couldn’t have stopped this, you can’t blame yourself for this.” She says calmly. “I know... and I haven’t even checked on Josh yet he was here as well during this as well.” He started, “For all I know he could be a Brim by now or worse...” Jasper didn’t want to finish and couldn’t finish. All he needed and wanted was a nice long dreamless sleep with Lydia. But when they drifted off it wasn’t dreamless at all... not even close. He walks down the main hallway in the pitch black. He doesn’t know why but he see’s a dark figure at the end of the hall. Then there are two. The one is on his or her knees, “What is this?” Jasper thinks out loud. The person that is on his knees is obviously now a guy and is covered in a black hood, “Jasper, my long lost foe! How’s things doing out there whining and cowering?” This is the guy standing behind the second figure, Kassy Brims. “Kassy, how is things with your loyal sheep?”Jasper retorts. Kassy has wavy brown hair that is just covering his ears and his eyes are a piercing black that burn holes into Jaspers’ soul, “Let’s quit the small talk and see why we are really here,” Kassy begins, “Say hi to Josh, Jasper.” The hood is off and Jaspers twin brother Josh stares up in anger, “Jaspers twin brother Josh stares up in anger, “You, unhelpful, insignificant b*****d! You didn’t even come to me after the purge! I was alone for five freaking days and you didn’t even care to look for me...” Josh spits violently. “Bro-” Jasper starts but to no avail. “We are not brother that’s why I have to do this...” Josh says furiously as he withdraws a pistol from his pocket. He aims at jaspers head, finger on the trigger. He applies pressure... Bang! Jasper wakes with a start he has sweat sticky to his body and he is shaky. “Jay? What’s up? Did you have a bad dream?” This came from half asleep Lydia on the floor beside him. “Ya ya I’m fine.” He brushes her off. © 2012 BaileyAuthor's Note
