11:00 p.m.

I was running.

Running from someone, something; I was scared.

What am I running from?

Why am I afraid?

Questions were going through my head as I tried looking back, but I couldn’t, I couldn’t control my body.

I was in a forest full of dead trees, it was raining and the moon was out, it was a full moon. A full moon glowing in the redness of the sky like blood splattered on a white, shiny plate. I continue to run, or at least my body did, dead trees flashing by me as I dodged around branches, scratches here and there. I tripped, my ankle sprained, and still no control of my body. I panicked, whatever was chasing me would be able to catch me now, and I began to lose hope. I heard a roar, a roar so loud it echoed deep throughout the forest causing the hairs on my neck to stand up. I laid there helplessly on my side, my ankle sprained, and my eyes closed waiting for the creature to come and do what he pleased to do.

No!

I thought, I couldn’t lose hope, I couldn’t give up, I had to at least try. With all my strength I pushed myself up, my legs shaking as if I were lifting five hundred pounds of weight and my arms trembling like gelatin on a plate. I had full control of my body and the first thing I did was look back, look back deep into the darkness of the forest. Someone, or something, was coming at full speed ahead. I began to run and once again I tripped, my ankle was in no condition to continue any further. I took deep breaths and quickly looked around for any weapons. Nothing. I groaned in frustration and quickly grabbed a nearby stick, and just as I was turning around, ready to fight for my life, a heavyweight forced itself on me.

The monstrous creature held its foot against my throat, its eyes grinning in pleasure as its mouth widen showing its yellow, sharp teeth. I held my hands against his ankle trying to push off the incredible force it produced against my throat. The oxygen in my lungs began decreasing and everything began to get blurry. I turned my head to the right and saw him - the boy from all my dreams. He was running towards us, his face blurry and the more I watched him, the more his face became unclear. My eyes began to close and the longer the creature held its foot against my throat, the more I felt myself drifting off to sleep, and I did. I closed my eyes, and everything went black.

At last I woke up, sweat running down my peach-like complexion. I exhaled looking to my right and then my left, my eyes staring blankly at the covers of my bed as I thought about my horrifying dream. I then looked to my alarm clock.

5:59 a.m.

A minute later the alarm went off and quickly I turned it off, it was like a horn going off in my head. I slid off my bed, the coldness affecting the comfort I had underneath the covers. I walked into the bathroom and turned on the light, the brightness stinging my vision. After taking a quick shower, I put on my uniform and fixed my hair into a tight high ponytail.

“Good morning Sunshine!” My Mother, a woman of diligent, poured herself a bowl of cereal and smiled as she winked at me.

“Aren’t you going to make eggs and bacon?” I asked as I sat on a stool at the kitchen table, tired.

“Sorry Honey, I don’t have enough time. I’m coming home late, again, okay? If you don’t mind, could you cook yourself something?” she quickly walked towards the door after placing her bowl into the sink, and replaced her house sandals with her work shoes.

“And Dad, is he also coming home late?” I followed towards the door, putting on my shoes as well.

“Yes. Okay Sweetie, I have to go, bye.” she shouted, closing the door behind her and drove off.

“Bye.” I whispered to myself as I stood at the doorway staring at the ground. I sighed, placing my hand on the handle and opened it, the heat the sun was giving off burned the particles of my skin.

I jogged towards the other side of the street and walked down the sidewalk; it was a beautiful day. Not too hot, not too cold, just right. I didn’t mind walking, because I got to walk through the nearby cherry blossoms, they were the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I loved being outside, the sounds of  birds chirping through the blue sky, the sound of the wind blowing through your hair, and the feeling of the sun’s heat hitting against your skin - it was nice. I smiled, recalling the times I used to play outside when I was a young girl, running through the tall, green grass and then climbing up the trunk of the trees. I suddenly began to laugh, the times I fell, ants going up my legs as I cried home to my parents. Good times. To be fair, I don’t know much of my childhood.

My parents told me I tripped and hit my head, hard, so hard I had amnesia for awhile. It was then that I began to have dreams, the dreams about mythical creatures, dreams about myself in danger, dreams like the one I had last night.

7:00 a.m.

I started jogging my way down the street,  jumping over fences so I could get to my school faster. My lungs burned and the muscles on my legs ached, but I couldn’t slow down, otherwise I would be late for school. At last I made it to the hill, and at the top was the school’s gates, three minutes later and I gasped for air walking towards the front entrance.

“Phew!” I sighed in relief as I wiped the sweat from my forehead, my heart racing inside my chest.

“Hey! You! Violet! What do you think you’re doing? Close your legs, you idiot, do you want everyone to know what color your underwear are?” An all too familiar voice spoke, and quickly I looked up, smiling. My best friend, Star, long, black hair with ocean, blue eyes stared down at me with a disapproving look.

“Hey.” I smiled, yet the look she was giving me didn’t change.

“Idiot, did you hear me? Close your legs!” she shouted as she held her hands against her small waist. I frowned, her message processing through my head, and then it came to me. My underwear was showing.

“Ah!” I cried and quickly forced my legs down, embarrassed.

“Ha, ha… look at your face, it’s red!” Star began to laugh, her disapproving aura completely gone, and there she went, back to her usual self, all cheery and happy.

“S-shut up! It’s not funny!” I frowned as I turned my back facing her and walked into the opened doors, completely offended, not to mention embarrassed.

“Violet!” She shouted as she speed-walked towards me, her hand reaching for my arm. “I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t have laughed, but… but…” She quickly covered her mouth, trying her hardest from giggling.

“Yeah, whatever.” I sighed shaking my head, it wasn’t that big of a deal.

“So you’re not mad anymore?” Star smiled as she walked by my side, her gleaming eyes staring down at me.

“N-no...” I slightly leaned back, it was hard to look her in the eye, in her sparkling, blue eyes.

“Yay!” Star cheered, her gigantic breast jumping up as well, I glanced at mine.

Not even….  I looked away and continue towards class.

I walked into the classroom and towards the seat in the way back by the window. I sat down as I gathered my stuff placing them on my desk, students chatted with their friends, laughing. I sighed as I began to draw in my notebook, until something interesting caught my attention.

“Did you guys hear? We’re having a new kid, he’s going to be in our class. I heard he was drop dead gorgeous.” Lucy, a girl with short, red hair, giggled.

“Oh my god, really?” Amber, curly, blonde hair, confidently smirked.

“Yeah, I heard that someone saw him registering at the front office.” Lucy smiled, and I sighed shaking my head.

These girls are so stupid… I thought and continue to draw, but I couldn’t. The thought of a new student transferring to our school in the middle of the semester lingered in my head.

Why would someone transfer in the middle of the year? It’s… Weird. I sighed once again and glanced at Star, her nose buried in a book, like always. I smiled at the sight of her and looked over at the window watching as students ran across the courtyard. I looked towards the bushes and noticed a fluffy, caramel bunny slowly shuffling towards a bush, it was injured.

Aww… You poor thing. I thought as I stood up just when the door opened and the teacher came in, I frowned.

“Good morning class.” The teacher greeted and the class answered back as she gathered her stuff, her frizzy hair messily put into a ponytail.

“Damn.” I whispered to myself as I sat down, my eyes glued to the window watching the bunny carefully.

I’ll have to go as soon as class is over, please bunny, don’t die.

Throughout the entire period I thought about the bunny non-stop. I rolled my eyes, annoyed at the fact that I could make such a big fuss over something as little as this. I looked at the window once again searching for the bunny, but it was gone.

“Oh no!” I shouted as I stood up from my seat, my mind far away from the lesson.

“Miss Martinez, is there something you would like to say?” The teacher asked, her cold, blue eyes glaring at me, I froze.

“S-sorry, I… um… dropped my pencil.” I gave a slight laugh and quickly sat down, embarrassed.

“Alright then,” she looked over at me again before continuing the lesson. I pushed through the crowds of people rushing towards the courtyard, class had just finished and the first thing that was on my mind was the bunny, the poor injured bunny.

“Violet, where are you going?” Star called out from afar, but I ignored her and ran towards my locker to get my stuff. I quickly ran to the courtyard towards the little garden, but the bunny was nowhere to be found.

“Where could it have gone?” I questioned as I got down on my knees, searching the bushes, “Found it.” The bunny laid there on the verge of dying, the wound on its side was painted with blood and the breathing of the bunny was faint. “I have to hurry!” I quickly grabbed the bunny and rushed towards the nurse’s office. “Ms. Blossom!” I called as I ran into the nurse’s office almost running into one of the beds.

“Violet, is that you?” She asked as she walked out from the back of the room while taking off her rubber gloves, “Is there something you need?”

“Yes!” I shouted causing her timid self to jump up in surprise. “You still want to become a veterinarian, right?”

“Y-yes, but why do you ask?” She tilted her head, her clueless blue eyes innocently blinking as she listened.

“I have a patient for you.” I quickly showed her the injured bunny, my hands slightly stained with blood, she gasped.

“I-is that a bunny?” She quickly grabbed the little furball placing it on a towel.

“Yep, and I need you to mend his wound!”

“B-but I’m still in training, I’m not sure if I could actually save his life.”

“W-what do you mean you’re not sure’?” I asked, slightly confused, and sighed in disappointment.

“I think I’ll have to send it to a vet, the only thing I could do is stop the wound from bleeding. I do not have the right medicines to treat this poor fella, so it’s best if I drop him off to someone who actually knows what they’re doing.” She innocently smiled and I nod, smiling back.

“That’s probably for the best. Well I’ll be going, it’s getting late, bye.” I walked towards the door, proud of myself. If it wasn’t for me, the bunny probably would have been dead by now.

+++

I walked into my house towards the kitchen, I had just got back from school and the thought of the bunny dying scared me. It reminded me of how fragile life is, how humans just die and end up somewhere of the unknown. I sighed as I made myself a sandwich, making an actual dinner was far from my mind and I was too lazy to do so.  I walked into the living room as I ate my sandwich, nothing but boring shows that are a bit too predictable. I sighed, bored out of my mind and turned off the TV, it was best if I just went to bed. I walked into my room changing into my pajamas, a tank top with a pair of fuzzy shorts. I laid in my bed, my mind blank, and without a fight I fell asleep.

I woke up, but I wasn’t in my room. I was in a forest again, but this time I was laying down, it was cold, really cold. The sky was red, as if it were painted with red, crimson blood. The moon, a full moon, shined through the red painted sky as ashes fell coloring the ground with its blackish hue.

Where am I? Why is there ash falling from the sky? Am I alone?

Questions were going through my head when I realized I wasn’t alone, I looked up and found myself being held by a young boy about my age. He was beautiful. His light brown, wavy hair, messily done, covered his emerald, green eyes. My eyes widen, still confused, and I opened my mouth to speak, but I couldn’t. It was as if I didn’t know how, inside I groaned, a bit disappointed at the fact I can’t control my own dreams. I continue to watch him, the boy, and asked myself.

Do I know him? He looks… familiar…

Inside I sighed and continue to study the boy, and once again my eyes widen.

Could he be… the boy…. from all my dreams?

I swallowed as the thought of him lingered in my head, until it finally disappeared. I looked at him once again, tears fell one by one and onto my cheeks.

Why is he crying?

I asked myself and looked down, my eyes widen, I had a huge wound on my side. Blood slightly oozed out staining the rocks around us and the boy continue to cry, his sobs getting louder.

Am I dying? How did I get hurt?

Droplets of salty water fell onto my eyes, and everything in my vision began to get blurry. I blinked once and looked at the boy once more, his eyes blurred with tears. I blinked twice and I knew, the third time I blink, will be the last time I blink, I was going to die. And just like I predicted, I blinked, closing my eyes and the last thing I saw was him - the beautiful boy shout and everything went black.

I woke up, shocked, sweat going down my neck as I gasped for air and my racing heart vibrating throughout my body. I was terrified, but of what? I sat up from my bed and grabbed my pillow, squeezing it as if I were testing my strength. I pulled my hair back and touched my cheeks, recalling the tears the boy had shed. I froze.

“What?” I said to myself as I looked at my hand, my cheeks were moist with droplets of liquid.

Is it from the dream?

I asked myself shaking my head, mentally.

They couldn’t possibly be from the dream, that would be silly. How bizarre would that be if they were actual tears, it’s probably sweat.

I sighed as I rubbed my forehead, I was completely drained, and stood up walking towards the kitchen to get myself a glass of water. I drank the water, placing it on my drawer to my right and laid on my bed, my mind lost in thought. Images running through my head like ants running around an ant pile when you stomp on their turf. I closed my eyes and tried to go to sleep, but it was useless, I wasn’t tired. I groaned in annoyance and buried my head into my blankets, I still couldn’t go to sleep. I put on my headphones and listened to music, the dream coming back into my thoughts.

The boy…. that reminds me, the new kid never came. I guess those girls were wrong.
