L.C.'s Heroic Looter: Ch. 1: VS

A Story by Blayk McCartney
"

Enter newbie employee at the Loot Crate offices, Lin Callahan. A 5 foot 3 inch tall, nerdy girl from Canada in her early twenties. well working late, she finds herself in a fight with an intruder.

"
A couple weeks ago, I got a job at Loot Crate, and the people here truly are awesome. One such person is Tanner Eld, a six foot something tall, blue eyed and pale blond haired guy. He's made more awesome with his motorbike, and French kick boxing. Tanner was hired a little before me and because he already lived in the area, and I was moving from Canada and having a hard time finding a place, he let me move in with him as he was renting a two bedroom apartment. My mother wasn't fully pleased about this. I'm a  five feet, three inch tall girl with no training in self defense. I look like a half used pencil beside Tanner. She was understandably worried about my safety. Regardless, best deal I could find and he seemed nice enough. In reality, I did have shadow ability to keep me safe though, so no sweat.
As of today, we're close to mailing out the the crates and I'm behind on work, so when Tanner came by so we could head home, I had to turn him away.
 "You sure Lin?"
"Yeah, I'll grab a taxi later, so, you know, fly you fool!" I replied well shoeing him away.
He seemed relived when he left but I ignored it and continued my work.
When I finally went to leave, I noticed someone lurking around. Not sure what to do, I followed him until he ducked into the warehouse packed with all the merchandise and crates being prepared. I dashed in after him and found him by some half prepared crates with a knife out. Before he could do anything with it I called out. He didn't waist time between being startled to throwing a crate at my head. I on the other hand was to surprised too act on anything but reflex; I turned to shadow, letting the crate pass threw me. While I was stunned, Mr. Crazy run for it.
Snapping out of it, I let my shadow form collapse against the floor, joining the ones around me, and slithered after the nut case. It was easy to get ahead of him despite him running like an Olympic athlete, once far enough, I stuck my hand out into the air and let it become solid to trip him. He landed nose first, breaking it. Well he writhed around on the floor, The rest of me become solid standing by his feet, so I could call the cops. I made the mistake of taking my eyes off of him though, Mr. Crazy got it together and kicked me hard in the shin. Since I didn't see it coming, I could only take it, leaving me with a broken leg...
For a moment I was frozen with pain, I couldn't see or hear, just feel the pain, but I soon dissolved down and slipped away, allowing the physical pain to stop. I couldn't feel anything physical like this, I was just a consciousness contained in an unattached shadow. Powers or not, I was just a nerdy girl who spent to much time on the computer... I was scared.
"Where are you?!" Came a shout.
Mr. Crazy was up, I could only see his feet from where I was hiding. He sounded a bit freaked out. I noticed my phone as well. It was still on.
Suddenly someone walked in on the scene, drawn by the nose. Crazy-face charged at him the second he saw my coworker, forcing me to make a choice; Stay safe or be a hero. I jumped out and pushed him out of the way, taking the hit. We all fell, but I escaped in my shadow form before I touched ground and made for my cell to tell the police what I could. I had to be solid though so, save for my leg to avoid the pain, I was. My new friend had a thing for being quick, clearly, he was up again and looking both flustered and frustrated. There was also a crack on his face. In the crack I could see another layer of skin that seemed to constantly change... Creepy.
After a quick demand that made me regret ever dressing up as Sub-Zero, and my lack of response, he ran at me. Preferable to the spear move but still, crap. I did my thing but I was tricked. As he passed threw me, he said "psych!" and kept on running. I chased after, trying to make him eat floor again, but we were coming up on the fire exit. I had to go block it.
When he caught up, he commanded "Get out of the way, Shadow Walker."
Ignoring him, I asked "Why would you try to ruin the crates?!"
"Because, I felt like destroying something beautiful. I'll settle for your face though."
Before I could figure out what he meant, I was eating shoe. "Fatality" rang out in my mind.
Despite his escape, I got the hero treatment for protecting my coworker and the crates. Tanner bought me dinner and a game as well. The game was actually a late welcoming gift though.
Anyway, I don't think I've seen the last of Mr. Crazy... This is but the prologue of a grand story, I'm sure.
