Big Blue Mighty

Big Blue Mighty

A Poem by Tim Schultz
"

I thought she was deep, but she acts shallow. I hope she thinks of me often.

"

Big, Blue Mighty

So vast and seeming

Eternal.

A tall, dark cliff

Leading down. Rocks. Sharp.

Hard. Shallow.

Broken legs

Broken back

Broken arms

Broken neck

Broken head

Twelve minutes remain.

Soon, my thoughts will die

And all my blood will

Be mixed with this pool;

Then, my conscious self

Dwells in your water.

I hope your children

Inherit your traits.

But, I hope you see

My cold, worn-out face

Whenever your son

Or daughter should smile.

I hope they have big,

Blue eyes, skinny frames,

And that they love you.

Endless, they’ll love you.

Forever love you.

You will know yourself.

A tall, dark cliff

Plummeting downwards.

Diurnal.

Big, Blue Mighty

So vast but, really,

Just shallow.
