Adversary

Adversary

A Poem by Steven Hicks
"

The enemy in this poem, is the one we should all fear most.

"
Laughs
Every time I fall
Breaks my knees
When I’m standing tall

Kicks me
When I’m down
Refusing me
My rightful crown

I can see
All my dreams
Circling the drain
Leaving forever it seems

All
Thrown away
By the man
Who calls me prey

I want
To fight back
To again be the leader
Of this pack

But this enemy
Is quite fierce
Through all defenses
He can easily pierce

Through all my trials
I have yet to meet
An enemy that
I could not defeat

But never has there been
Such a difficult adversary
As the man in the mirror
Looking back at me

Hrm. I really like the poem itself. It took me a second to get the meaning, but I'm not for sure if that's because I was looking for so many different things or because I'm just slow today. You also did very well in the composition of the poem. The rhyme scheme and stanzas were very well organized.

Well done, cousin.

I like this poem, and yet I don't like it. I know in a way what you are going through, and can feel it so immensely in this poem that it hurts. But it catches my attention, and it really pulls at my heart. You did yet another good job with this one. But I do hope that things get better for you.....
