The Fight

The Fight

A Poem by Steven Hicks
"

Being a martial artist, I thought it would be neat to try and put a self defense technique into a poem.

"
Locked in a stare
I hold my opponent’s eyes
Just for safe measures
I have said my goodbyes

Keeping his gaze
I bow for respect
Despite the hatred
Honor, is not a lost aspect

As our backs
Straighten once again
He lunges forward
Time to defend

I parry with my left
And counter with my right
A fishhook to the eye
Taking his sight

I step behind
With a palm to the back
He arches as I thought
And I release my next attack

A back fist to the neck
Then I pull him to my knee
His back crashing down
He can’t get free

I snap his neck
Then let him fall
His life is gone
But he gave his all

I bow again
And walk away
To my protected family
To share another day
