A Fight Well Fought

A Fight Well Fought

A Poem by Steven Hicks

As strength and pride fill his chest

Fierceness finds its way to his eyes

Staring at the enemy

No time for last goodbyes

As the battle ensues

Stamina slowly fades

“I must protect them”

Any fear this thought slays

Willing to die

For his pups to live

“If the price for this is a life

Mine I’ll gladly give”

This wolf’s honor

Is not to be forgot

Sacrifice for love

In a fight well fought

As he sees

The bear’s last fall

His eyes slowly close

“Not a bad day at all”
