Your Mark

Your Mark

A Poem by Steven Hicks

I find it both a blessing and a curse

As I remain here licking this wound

From memories that inspire this verse

I can’t help but still feel attuned

The same thoughts that bring the biggest smile

Also rend my heart more than any blade dare

Not sure there remains enough to beguile

Even should I find another maiden fair

It feels much more than captivation

Devotion also feels inadequate

In spite of this laceration

I’ll always be your biggest advocate

My love for you is never fleeting

In dreams my heart lives out its desire

When I wake, the morning greeting

I’ll bear your mark until I expire
