I Hear America

I Hear America

A Poem by Steven Hicks
"

This was an assignment in an English composition class I took a while back.

"

I hear America calling

All her countless sounds

All her hopes and fears

In a world that knows no bounds

From the richest man in the highest penthouse

To the poorest man in the darkest alley

From the adventurer on the highest mountain

To the homebody in the lowest valley

From the best of us

Those loyal and true

Down to the worst

Most vile shrew

We all sing our song

Coalescing into one voice

Leading our country on its way

With each and every choice

We The People

In all our hysteria

Will soon determine the fate

Of our beloved America

She is crying out in desperation

A far cry from her former glory

I pray we all hear her cry

Before we ignoratnly end her story

Well since this is a writing site I'll start with that. I became interested in writing while in the eighth grade writing fanfics of my favorite animes. Poetry became an interest later and that is no.. more..
