Achilles

Achilles

A Poem by The Raven King
"

A look into the mind of a legendary warrior...really any man who lives to kill

"

               I am tired of war

I am tired of smelling like blood, sweat and fire

wearing it like a second skin

tasting steel and brain matter in my food

I am tired of death cries lulling me to sleep at night

I am tired of looking at the enemy

              as beneath contempt, as beasts

I am tired of feeling nothing as I take life

I am tired of providing feasts for ravens, rats and jackals

I am tired of praises, tired of spoils of war, tired of widows and orphans

Tired of glory and honor and victory.

I am tired of being feared, tired of respect

Tired of kings, emperors, and tyrants

Tired of high walls and moats

              and young boys in armor

I'm tired of gods, petty jealousy and fate.

I'm tired of being good at nothing but killing

and not being killed.

              Amputate my shield

                             so I can feel.

      Amputate my sword

so I can just be a man.

Absolutely amazing work here. I wonder just how many people who kill for a living log to be just a man.

Interesting take on a warriors mind set, throughly enjoyed the perception.

I'm sure many soldiers can relate to this poem. Well done. Very masculine poem.

imaginative and thought provoking. I am sure even modern day soldiers could relate to this, the desensitizing to death and killing, the price paid to become a killing machine.
