--- Summer In a Jar ---

--- Summer In a Jar ---

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy
"

Oh how I love summer evenings.

"

Oh how I love the twilight hour.
Soft breezes stir the wild flowers.

The smell of dinner fills the air.
I settle in my old lawn chair.

Thirst is quenched as ice cubes clink.
In lemonade, my troubles sink.

Blaze orange sunset ends my day,
as all my headaches drift away.

Sun slowly sinks in golden skies,
While children chase down fireflies.

They play and laugh, both near and far.
Catching summer ... in a jar.

The charm of this one was in it's wonderful simplicity. It told a mundane story of the end of the day, but in a beautiful way. The reader is drawn in. Feels the wind, smells the dinner, tastes the lemonade, sees the sunset, and hears the children laugh. Five senses brought to life in a six stanza couplet poem with perfect meter. Bravo my friend, this was fantastic.

oh my goodness! you're writing poetry and slipping it under the door. I love this! I actually feel calmed, can smell the grass and taste the lemonade. It makes me dream of simpler times, is simpler a word? hmmmm, guess I'll go look it up in the meantime, write more poetry!

Fireflies in a jar. What a memory. I love this! I'm looking out my window at piles of snow, but it feels just like summer.

This is beautiful and very well-expressed as usual. Your couplets are careful and descriptive; you paint a fantastic picture with your words. No criticism here! Great job :-)

I remember nights of lightning bugs glowing in mayonnaise jars, games of ghost in the graveyard which seemed to involve a paper plate though I can't remember the rules, the smell of hamburgers cooking on the grill. Summer.
