A Mourners Pledge

A Mourners Pledge

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy
"

This was written for a friend who lost a son.

"

Every day a loved one
Departs before their time.

One dark day this summer,
That beloved one was mine.

Every day since you've been gone
The sun still warms the sky.
The wind still blows, the flowers grow,
I sit and wonder why.

I watch them out the window.
I watch them hustle by.
Don't they know my baby's gone?
Don't they … ask God why!?

Before that awful day,
I was among those rushing by.
I did not know you'd lost your love
I never saw you cry.

Now I know your pain dear friend,
I know what you've been through.
Instead of each alone in grief,
Let's join and now be two.

'Cause in the morn the sun will rise
As it has for many years.
The sun still rises every day
Despite the mourners tears.

We'll hold tight to those who weep
We'll help them through the dark.
And get them to a place and time
Where life regains it's spark.

Beloved child, I miss you so
You had so much to give.
I’ll always keep you in my heart
While helping others live.

To all the others loved and lost
We share your loved ones pain.
We know how bad they hurt for you
We'll help them live again.

an honest sentiment, power not lost in a single word of it. it has a cyclic quality that keeps it open to the reader, but still seems so personal in the way it reads, almost like an internal dialogue. i think it could do without the last paragraph though, i think that the story itself is obvious in its lesson, no need to point it out verbatim.

There is strength.

There is loss.

There is life.

Thank you for your request to read this emotional poem. It is absolutely beautiful, and indeed, you captured it. It is because I had friends that I made it through the last year and half. I am so glad that your friend - had you. This is wonderful.

These are my two favorite stanza's:

"I watch them out the window.
I watch them hurry by.
Don't they know my baby's gone?
Don't they ask God why!? "

"'Cause in the morn the sun will rise
As it has for many years.
The sun still rises every day
Despite the mourners tears."

Excellent job.

I particularly like the end which offers hope.

I like, too, the 'April.' Intended or not, it evokes 'ye ole' T.S. Eliot's "cruelest month" April.

Loss as a universal. Indeed.

This made me cry, brought back my own pain over the loss of my dear friend. I can't know how bad it feels to lose a child though, no matter how it hurt with my friend. There's nothing worse than a parent's grief. But I feel a parallel ache between your loss and my own. I know exactly what you mean about life going on and it being hard as hell to watch people go about their lives as if nothing's missing from the world-but you know the truth. The world has lost something magic, so significant and special that the sun shouldn't even be shining. It should have the respect to be just a little more dim, time should slow down-something. I'm so glad you feel the need to reach out to someone else and help them. Heaven will be waiting for you at the end of your days, along with your precious child. ~Tara
