A Single Dance

A Single Dance

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy
"

Just enjoy each dance.

"

Ten thousand forks in separate roads,
A million twists of chance.
A moment less, an instant more,
I might have missed this dance.

A single dance in the ball of life,
A waltz two share together.
However faint, there is a chance,
Each dance could last forever.

However brief or long the ball,
However long this dance.
You didn’t walk away or laugh,
You gave my heart a chance.

I’d like the roads to never part,
But know they likely might.
I’ll bow and thank you for the dance,
That to my dark, brought light.

I really enjoyed reading this. In reading this it made my mind dance which, I would assume, would be what you would want to have happen. I like the opening and often think about the roads I chose or did not and how those choices made certain things happen. Ahh Robert Frost! A thought I've had running through my mind lately is heroines make choices, things just happen to characters.
So, in that respect your poem was timely or did I just read it by chance? "a million twists of chance" this line starts the dance. Great work

I have often thought I should start walking through life instead of dancing through it...but this gives me hope- I like how the narrator finds a dance partner-
Excellent write-

Ah, the dance. The moment where the rest of the world around goes silent and falls away leaving just the two of you caught in a little slice of heaven. No matter how fleeting it may be, it paints hours into your heart. Far too few dances in my life, but thanks for this one!

Very nice form. Simple yet profound, not sappy, not too wordy (I am always suspicious of writing that is too wordy; it oftens covers up a lack in the author of knowledge on the subject!).

You conveyed very well the sense of precariousness all relationships have (even marriages), and the wonder that one found worth in you in particular, out of all the available choices.

I'm not very well versed (forgive the pun) in poetry, so I'll stop now before I get too wordy and betray my own lack of knowledge...!

Liked your poem because I like to be in love and be dancing in my lovers arms. Has the two things entwined and the doubts that always cast shadows on both love and dance.

This is classic. It's poetry from a dream with a dark blue sky and brilliant stars and water lapping on the shore. I can almost hear the music coming from the pavilion.

perfect. classic, and familiar as if we should have been committed to memory a long time ago.
