Writers should never fall in love. I mean true, honest to God writers. If you think about it, why does a writer write? We write because we love writing. Writing is a labor of love. Every day we make time to write, not because of the riches we get or will get. The overwhelming majority of us get no money. We might hope one day to make a living, but we realize the enormity of the odds against that happening. Those around us give weakly proffered support or none at all. We look at our stories in their hopeless states of plot entanglement, and we keep banging keys ... or we go on to our next great story idea. All that the words ever give us in return is angst, but yet we still love them. We never get tired of our words, we never tell them to start seeing someone else, every day we get up and we love them and seduce them and caress them and every night we go to bed thinking about them. We writers ... we know love like "the others" can never know. So when they tell you that they love you ... ask them when they last sat down and wrote. If the answer isn't "I write every day" ... smile politely, and walk away from them, they already have a true love.
