Worry

Worry

A Poem by Creepy Swine Guy

You pace. There is that ache that feels like
someone is pressing a fist against the inside
of your chest, trying to push it through

Next, you sit. You hear every beat of your
heart in the surging of the blood through the
vessels beneath your ears. Manic worry.

Worry about the intractable, knowing that
somehow, you must manage it all. There is
nothing you can do, but you must do something!

Thump, thump, thump ... heart pounds, stomach
churns ... one big tangled mass of wires, alive
with arching current that allows nothing to settle.

You feel yourself leaking years in those passing
seconds. You long to rest, but cannot sleep.
You want to take action, but have none to take.
You go over it all one more time. Then, you pace.

Excellent description of a horrible feeling we all know well. I really like "You feel yourself losing pounds". I have had this same thought while feeling this way. Sometimes it feels more like losing years. If I could see the pounds leaving, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. Well done here!

Mot into flowery reviews this is a good poem plain and simple. It sums worry up totally.

Worry has been my constant companion for years. The constant murmurings in the background, the sharp intake of breath when we forget for a moment it's there. As Hemmingway said we must face eternity, or the lack of it, each day- it is a daunting task, a useless task but worry is not a guest we can simply throw out with the trash, although I do wish it were that easy. I felt this one right down to that ball of anxiety that sits heavily deep in my solar plexus.

Thank you for stopping. You always seem to "get it" even down to the little bits of nuance. I apprec.. read more
so very good write says i... easy read... relatable to anyone off drugs
the pic is also perfect ... its a room that looks to be a prison but that is a window with light on the other side...
i think this poem is very good and your end is the proverbial killer... thanks for sharing this beautiful pain and vain self destruction.. we go over and over and over again ...:{{

Ugh, it's like an omniscient narrator was standing behind me as I sat here in the dark. The pace of the first part really drew me in for the following anxiety attack. My psychologist's sense is tingling, much like my eyes. Structured read! :)

This is refreshing, CSG - less contemplative, more commentary - which adds to the undertone of searching. A bit reminiscent of some of Larkin`s stuff. I think.
I love it. P.

I am ever so aware of how this feels, and you described it perfectly Piggy, it's a wonderful descriptive, just like I feel sometimes too. Things tend to work themselves out or given enough time will fall away in the events of life taking us elsewhere, we choose to hold on or to let go. That's the hard part, stress and worry so hard to let go of.
