Love's Cruelty

Love's Cruelty

A Poem by The Lark
"

I wrote this when I was 16, so bear with me.

"

I turn to you and quickly come to see

Your eyes reveal a likeness to my own,

This glance exposes kindred thoughts to me,

Connection with a soul that was unknown.

Yet now your face is altered in some way,

Eyes turned towards another you perceive,

By smiling, I disguise what tears convey,

His heart is yours, or so you would believe.

Thus another turns to me in kind

And yet my eyes are fixed on only you,

Her sorrow has no bearing on my mind,

My eyes will never meet with hers, it’s true.

And one will look on her as she does moan

Love’s cruelty bears it taunts on her alone.
