Love's CrueltyA Poem by The LarkI wrote this when I was 16, so bear with me.I turn to you and quickly come to see Your eyes reveal a likeness to my own, This glance exposes kindred thoughts to me, Connection with a soul that was unknown. Eyes turned towards another you perceive, By smiling, I disguise what tears convey, His heart is yours, or so you would believe. And yet my eyes are fixed on only you, Her sorrow has no bearing on my mind, My eyes will never meet with hers, it’s true. Love’s cruelty bears it taunts on her alone. © 2010 The Lark |
