Bane of Block

Bane of Block

A Poem by The Lark
"

A more upbeat take on writers block, written long before my other rant about writers block by the way.

"

What line here speaks the measure of a man

If neither word nor deed be wrought by him?

When proof of artful thought yields little span;

So lacking voice, would mind appear dim?

 But shaping thoughts sometimes refuse to firm,

And foul internal fog declines to clear;

Prolonged, it makes a matter of concern,

Uncured, defeats epiphany so near.

 Thus wretched ailment stays the heart and hand

From union under pen and written word;

Deny such urges for complete disband,

To quit, no greater has a poet erred.

 For light shall carve its way and come to thee

If held with faith and lived in patience be.

Bravo! I write very straight-forward poetry with simple, everyday language. Every now and then I want to write something more like this, and I never can seem to even get started. Just trying to write like this gives me, coincidentally enough, writers' block. Great work, I can tell that you put a lot of thought into it.

I guess I'm something of an old-school poet. I always write with fixed meter and rhyme, and for the most part that's what I enjoying reading too. "I'd as soon write free verse as play tennis with th.. more..
