FledgeA Poem by ThatchWell you and me baby, we learned how to fly And even if we didn't we can say that we tried But getting your feet off the ground's the hard part We should've just kept on walking from the start But a bird left alone without friendship in flight Can be oh-so-empty, a skyline at night And bright like the sun I sit behind clouds But now, yes now, I'm all hunkered down See these hollow bones of mine have been shaken A journey begins when the first step is taken So with wings to the wind I'll circle and dive This feeling that's almost like being alive Behind jet stream splotches peers out the fall moon And autumn's brisk wind sends a chill to my plume But further, and farther, and deeper I glide Above without worry on ivory tide
