Something I'm Not

Something I'm Not

A Poem by YoungWriter

they all expect us to be lively, successful, and carefree
they all expect it to come from me

I can't be something that I'm not
I can't be something that you bought

you can't return me and I'm sorry for the waste
but I'm not that bad am I?
to be returned and replaced?

I can't help who I am
you're supposed to side with me, not with them

I suppose I can't change your mind
I suppose you have to stay on your grind
you took me back and had the contract signed

the contract read:
"she shall not be sold.
she shall not be free.
she shall never be bold.
she shall never be.
she shall always be quiet.
she shall be put on a diet.
she shall do as we please.
she shall beg on her knees.
she shall never question us.
she shall always be promiscuous.
she shall never exists.
she shall be vanished to sea.
she shall go on a quest.
she shall never be like me."

why must you treat me as a wear and tear
I've never done anything that is a scare
I've never jumped off a bridge from a dare

why must you treat me as an item sold back to the store
worthless, cheap, and nothing more

I'm sorry that I'm not who you want me to be
but that shouldn't cause me to not be me

to never be free
to never be a sight to see
to always beg you on my knees
to live and die in the trees

you hid me away years and years ago
from all the traffic and the cities flow

but in the end all you did was steal
you stole a life from me that could've been real

but no.
I wasn't good enough
but no.
I wasn't tough

but I thank you.
you showed me who to never be
the only being to ever be is me
