A Child's Soul

A Child's Soul

A Poem by A Modern Hippy

I look at the sky sometimes, to see

The changing colours float across that space.

I think of the balloons I get for my birthday, to be

Released into those colours to dance and chase

My world away.

I look at the ground sometimes, to look

At the little people scurrying to and fro along their paths.

I think of the eggs I put there on Easter, in nooks

To be gathered by those peoples to store and feed

Their futures.

I look at the people around me sometimes, to count

The different creatures that live in their hearts and heads.

I think of the times I spend with them, to mount

And to ride the steed of pain that haunts me and rescue

My heart creature's twin.

The boy told me so with a smile, and I believe him.
