The Prologue

The Prologue explaining a little about the world and its devastating event that brings this story to life.

Fifteen years ago a great earthquake, devastated the large island of Paltos. The people believed the massive earthquake was caused by their gods fighting each other over the ultimate and supreme god of the people. The people believed the strength of the gods was too much for the mortal land to handle and that’s what caused the earthquake to happen. This event is also known as “The F.O.G”-Meaning (Fighting Of Gods).

“The F.O.G” Caused the island of Paltos to be broken up ,sunk and spread out around the vast sea. At first this caused mass panic and hysteria among the people who only knew lives of the land. Only a very small fraction of people had boats, and could move about the sea, as explorers, merchants and fishers, and even then they stayed very close to the land.

This “F.O.G” forced people to relearn how to live and survive. The sea now was the only way to get resources that you wasn't fortunate enough to have on your island when it split, Family’s who where miles apart have drifted weeks apart even months. The Great Sea was now the only way to get things you needed if you did not want to degrade to a primal lifestyle.

Depending on what god you believed in many would say that their god was victorious for one reason or another. Some people believed their gods lost , denounced their faith and found another deity to believe in . Tho almost all of the known deities before “The F.O.G” have revealed their existence in one way or another after the quake but, none seem to reign supreme . To the surprise and disbelieve of most of the elders an old god long forgotten and rarely known about in this time period resurfaced on that day. The Goddess of Magic named Deis, when she resurfaced somehow so did magic, and people with the blood of their ancestors from hundreds of years past, begin discovering how to use and master magic again.

Since “The F.O.G” happened fifteen years ago the people have been adjusting, learning ,embracing or despising the current times. The Sea has become a home for most, a way of work and way of travel, many have used this as a way to spread evil and fear others have used it to advance in power. Ultimately the Sea is Owned by no one, and belongs to everyone. Ships , Boats and navigators have now become a necessity for survival. This has brought forth a new Era of people. One this world was not prepared for.

As you know when a land falls so does its government, and so holds true for Paltos. The ruler and almost all of the people in position of power died during the quake. Many saw this as way to finally be free of their controlled lifestyles. Some craved the peace of guards and someone people must answer too , and tried to appoint another to rule their smaller lands. Others used this as a chance to do what they want when they want since there is no one to stop them. Lets just say the last of the motives mentioned was the vast majority. Thus bring us to what as known as

“The Pirate Era”.

Now fifteen years after “The F.O.G” the world is mostly made of Pirates or Sailors. These pirates are often talked about as if they was spawned from hell itself. Most have no regard for human life or others belongings, a ship being shot out of the Sea or a town being raided and burned down is common and if you are not prepared to defend yourself. Which most common folk aren't. Theirs not much you can do without a strong community or government.

Tho Pirates now rule the Sea, there has been a few threats emerge that plan to put a end to Pirates, Treasure hunters, illegal sailors, and salvage's. The biggest threat is a man named Quintilian Kieran III. At the time of “The F.O.G” he was one of the wealthiest and richest men in the island. Since then hes Built an empire , a massive army and thousands of battleships. Hes also self proclaimed himself as the Ruler and Law of the land and sea. Tho many choose to ignore and not follow his laws , its very obvious his influence is growing rapidly. Towns and city’s often wonder when he will come and claim there town under his law and wonder if they will fight or give into his power.

People don’t know why or what reasons he has for trying to get rid of the pirates but he has gained a lot of favor from the common folk. It is unsure if he is doing it because they are a threat to his power or because he truly cares and wants to protect the people of this world. Thousands of his ships roam the sea tracking down and capturing or killing pirates.

On top of that, strong, brave and often desperate people become Privateers, To make a living or get rich over night. These privateers are essentially Bounty hunters. They search for pirates that are wanted by the Kieran Empire. Famous or well known pirates have wanted posters in every town, and city. As well as their bounty worth making anyone who can see and has a ship able to be a privateer if brave enough. Most go after the big payday which makes their career very short as most pirates with big bounty’s are extremely dangerous. Some become pirates themselves after being defeated because pirates will usually spare the lives of a strong foe , so that they become a strong ally.
