The Ship

The Ship

A Poem by TheTattooedPoet

Why is it as soon as I give into goodbye,
His wave crashes back onto my shore?
He's been trying to drift away for days
And I've kept him tethered to me...
He kept pulling harder and harder so finally,
Sadly,
I cut the rope...
Then, as I prepared for his departure,
I watched as he sailed right back to me.
As happy as I am,
I'm weary.
There's a storm on the horizon,
And everyday there is a question of when it will hit.
On the calm nights,
I go to sleep thanking the Sea of Doubt for letting him
Stay that day...
Still secretly wondering if the morning will bring clear skies,
Or I'll wake to see his ship has sailed for good

I like the metaphor here. I think its ability to be applied on several levels means that it means more to a larger group of people, and that's a good way to do it.

A very metaphorically creative piece of writing... I like it.
Once had someone like that that I would let come and go, thankfully she finally sailed away before I drowned.

Wow.. pretty neat. I feel it's about finally letting go of someone that you love...and once you are gone the realize what they have lost.. and they try to crawl their way back.. and the emotions that that can play on you.
