Hibi

Hibi

A Poem by Ryuri

Hibi

Awakened by the world’s blinding light,
day after day,
as the dazzling sun appears,
I saw the world shimmer.
but when it was no longer visible,
everything dims.

Every day, life is as if on a loop;
no one can escape.

Lost in the midst of nowhere,
where vision’s hindered by darkness
I can only sense
a familiar presence of emptiness
spreading through space.

In the midst of nothingness,
I can even hear silence.

Melancholy envelops my mind,
as the world begins to gloom.
The world’s melancholic sentiment
resonates deep within my heart,
and as the rain pours,
the world weeps.

As I woke from my slumber,
the world’s tears had dried, leaving silence.
The once-gloomy world
was once again illuminated.
As hope emerges, melancholy withered,
and as I saw the dazzling sun,
the world was smiling again.

i really got lost in this narrative. we see the persona experiencing something we all know -- feeling low on a winter's night. this feeling is explored so intricately: 'a familiar presence of emptiness.' really captures an emotion i know all too well. but the ending is an optimistic one. the night is darkest before the dawn, but finally the sun rises and with it our hearts begin to shimmer. a great moral of how all our wounds heal with time.
