Better Than MeA Poem by Gary West
You taught me how to be who I should be
You taught me what it feels like to believe You were there when I needed prayer You made me a better me You held my hand, gave me strength to stand You were what I aspired to be. I wish you could see What you mean to me You fought on your knees To set me free Then you flew away On your angel wings For a moment I Was better than me You'll never know what a hero you are to me Or how much I owe for the things I know and things I dream Wish I could bring you back just to have you back If only for a day I wish you were here so that you could hear All the things I didn't say Don't want you to see What's become of me I fell apart At the seams Barely holding on 'Til again we meet So that I can be That better me But you're not here anymore I can't come knocking at your door You can't invite me in With a sparkle and a grin Just like you did before Now I'm trapped in a world That can't see me And I'm not who I Want to be So it's a game Of wait and see I'm waiting to be Better than . . . © 2014 Gary WestAuthor's Note
