The Ritual

The Ritual

A Story by Tessah
"

A girl named Emilyn was captured by the Dark Lord for a ritual that will allow him to come to Earth. Archangel Gabriel has the power to stop the Dark Lord and not fall in love with the mortal girl?

"
I walk down the shadowy hall toward the Dark King, the Demons around me quiet and thirsty. The Dark King gives me a wicked smile and I try not to shudder. I kneel in front of him and the Ritual begins, the Demons chanting slow, dark, words and lines. My breath becomes labored but I stay in my place as the Dark Lord joins in with his demons.
The doors burst open and everything turns into chaos when an arrow suddenly pierces the Dark Lord, killing him. The Demons start to get out and a dark figure takes my hand, gently pulling me to my feet and holding me close as Demons run past.
Light quickly engulfs both me and my rescuer and when I open my eyes again, I'm in a forest, the light bouncing off the trees. My legs buckle and the figure lifts me into their arms. "I've got you, you'll be safe soon, Emilyn." I sigh with relief when I find Gabriel carrying me. His perfect face and white wings the last things I see before blackness surrounds me.

Serlina is waiting for us and quickly ushers me inside her house. "Set her on the table." Emy groans when I set her down, but I hush her softly. "I'm not sure how this will work on a human, but I'll try my best." I nod and Serlina sings softly as she works on getting the poison out of Emilyn, but she suddenly stops. "What's wrong?"
"There's too much in her, I don't think that I can get it all out without killing the girl." I look at Emilyn, a world without her? Someone knocks on the door and Serlina rushes to get it, but as soon as she opens it, she drops down into a bow. I quickly follow her lead when the Angel King steps in. "Rise." We both do and He walks over to Emilyn. "What has happened to this human, Gabriel?"
"The Dark King put darkness and evil in her, Father." I watch as the Angel King starts mumbling strong and ancient words, before cutting a small slice in her side. Emilyn starts to shake and I take her hand as darkness suddenly starts to seep from the cut and pool on the floor before suddenly shriveling up, but He continues.
After what seems like hours, the darkness slows to a trickle before stopping entirely as the last drops of poisoned darkness fall. Emilyn stops shaking and He steps back, letting Serlina clean, dress, and bandage the cut. I bow to the Angel King, thanking Him as He leaves.

My side throbs slightly and I move my hand over a small, thin wrap of bandage. Someone presses a wet cloth on my forehead and I  sigh as the throbbing dims and the spinning stop. "Gabriel?"
"Emy, I didn't think that you would ever wake up again." I open my eyes to find him sitting next to the cot I lay on. "What happened?"
"The, the Dark King, he infected you so much with his poison and darkness, that you barely survived, the Angel King, He took it out and helped you fight against it." Gabriel dips the rag in a basin before ringing it out and pressing it against my forehead again.
After a minute or so, he helps me sit up before grabbing a nearby bowl sitting next to the fireplace, keeping whatever's inside warm, and hands it to me. I find a chicken broth with flour noodles, sliced pineapple, and jalapenos`. "Remember when we used to sit by the fireplace, eating this while it snowed outside." He smiles and I take a spoonful, savoring the sweet-spicy taste.
A while later, when I can walk around without anyone's help, Gabriel and I travel to the Kingdom. The angels at the castle receive us and two maidens help me into a flowing white dress with crystals, jade pearls, and the tiniest sapphires. "This is amazing, thank you so much." They nod and guide me to the two doors leading to the Great Hall. Gabriel waits for me and offers me his arm.
Smiling I take it and together we walk into the room toward where the Angel King stands at the other end of the hall, the Noble of the mirrored Kingdom standing on either side of us. The King smiles at His son and then at me. "We are gathered here at this time to join my son, the crown-prince of our magnificent Kingdom, to the wonderful Lady Emilyn." A few cheers go up and Gabriel squeezes my hand as they die down and the King continues. "I have already spoken to my son and Emilyn, and they have both agreed to the laws and vows of our Kingdom, leaving only the seal to be finished."
He looks at us and we both nod at him and he smiles, beckoning the minister to bring the two silver crowns over. Gabriel and I both kneel in front of his father as he starts to chant, lifting one of the crowns and places it on Gab's head. He continues chanting, making my heart soar with happiness, while the King lifts the other silver crown off the pillow and places it on my head. "Rise, crown-prince and -princess of this Kingdom."
We both rise and he smiles then to me he says. "You will now be known not as a simple human from the middle-world, but as the Crown-Princess of the Highest Kingdom, rise Crown King Gabriel and Crown Queen Emilyn." The people around us cheer and I smile as I stand facing a line of people to thank them for coming.

I haven't thought of how the mortal and Archangel meet yet, so any ideas would be amazing.
