![]() Broken MemoriesA Story by Tesla23![]() A man run froms his past![]() Isaac slammed the double doors open, dashing through them with all of his might. They slid open, crashing into the wall behind them. Running, he entering the abandoned building, a tear running down his cheek. A thick layer of dust covered everything in sight, making it seem as if the items themselves were just dust replicas of the entire room. Isaac watched in awe as the building filled up with people, sitting in the brand new chairs that had just been added to the hospital. Isaac and his wife went up to the desk, a new young lady was positioned behind it. Her face, wrinkle free, was one of joy and happiness. It seemed as if she had just gotten out of medical school, and she didn't yet know the cruelties of the medical world. “Hello, I’m Karen, how can I help you today?” the receptionist said, her voice sounding like honey with its sweetness. Johns heart fell to the floor, shattering into a million pieces. He knew when this was. This was the unfaithful day, the day when everything went wrong. The world, like sand, shattered into nothingness, revealing its present state: A damp, abandoned hospital. No one was to be seen, spare the rusty chairs. This was strange, Isaac thought. These had occurred before, but never this strong. Usually, they only haunted him in his dreams, not daring to show their true nature in the light. Isaac moved, now in haste from that terrifying event. Even the sheer mention of that day would put him in a small tremor, much less reliving it. He was half way across the hall, when he heard an ear shattering scream. Most likely made by a woman who was in extreme pain. A second wave of sound hit him again, and he knew exactly whose screams those were. “Janet!!” He called out, his heart racing. Another screech was replied, louder than the other two. In front of him, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a speck of movement, its form instantly leaving his peripheral vision. He immediately turned his head, to see where the shadowy creature had gone. In its place, stood a doorway, into what appeared to be a standard hospital room. “Hello” He called out, in hope of getting a reply. He quietly sneaked into the room, to where he was greeted by another mirage. There, he stood in the corner of the room. This him, however, was a younger him. Full of life and a will to live. He remembered this moment like the back of his hand, and had been analyzing it for five years. “Well, Mr Fonds, we have bad news for you.” The doctor said, pacing around the room in a line. “Is she going to be alright?” Janet asked, tears coming out of her eyes. “Well, she’s fine, but I’m afraid that I can’t say the same for you. If you went through with it, you would surely die. Even our latest technology can’t beat the facts…” “No.” Isaac said, his voice like stone. “We’re not doing it. I’m not losing you. Not over this. I don’t ever want to lose you. It’s not worth it.” He said, his voice quivering while saying so. “It’s okay, babe, this was meant to happen, it’s all apart of the grand scheme of things. Nature will take its toll, but in return it will give us a gift. The gift of love. The gift of prosperity, and everything in between. Remember, also, it’s my decision.” Like before, the room transformed into the dreary hospital, its lifelessness returning to its old form. He quickly made his way out of the room, and went to the stairs. As he ascended up the old stairs, with each step a noise came out that resembled one scratching at a chalk board. Voices called at him from all angles, trying to lure him away from his current task; but he persisted, running all the war up until he hit an iron door.Nothing could stop him now, as he tightly gripped the handle, and slowly twisted it. A small click could be heard as it turned all the way. Isaac softly pushed on the door, and what he saw crumbled his world. It was the same room as before, except later. His wife sat in a bed, her screams filled the room, Isaac being drowned in terror. The rooms before we're like grains of sand compared to this, now being washed away by monstrous waves. Nothing could prepare him for this, his former self not yet knowing the tragedy that was about to happen. “PUSH!!!” He said, tears coming out of his eyes, knowing that this would be the last time that he saw his loving wife. “Come on, you can do it!” “I’m... trying...” She managed to squeeze out, crackled with all of the stress. Her body was now convulsing, tearing the sheets right off of her body. A form began to slither out of her body, head first. Her body stopped convulsing, her body laid there on the bed. A continuous line was all that could be heard from the room now, coming from the machine. Something was wrong, though. “Why’d the baby stop?” Isaac asked, concern in his voice now. “Why’d the baby stop!?!” We’re so sorry, Mr. Fond.” The doctor said. “They’re both dead. Present Isaac couldn't take it any more, anger that had been kept inside him was now about to be unleashed. He went to tackle the doctor, going head on into him. Instead of tackling him, his feet were met with air. His body fell at alarming rates, his heart getting ready to beat out of his chest. Right as he was about to hit the bottom, he heard his wife's soothing voice: “Now we can be together.”© 2014 Tesla23Reviews
