A Story by VegeTERRYn The Wordsmith
"

"
Their eyes meet for the first time in the produce department. Their eyes meet again in the grocery check out line. They smile at each other. They proceed through their lines. They pay for their groceries and exit the store. She sits down in the cafe across the street with her boyfriend who's been waiting. He follows her inside and approaches their table, "Excuse me guys. Is this relationship a serious one? You have a future together?'" The couple responds simultaneously but with opposite answers. Him: "Yes, definitely." Her: "No, not really." They look at each other, visibly stunned. The three parties now surprisingly involved in a deep conversation have a deep laugh together. One member of the trio only laughs along awkwardly to avoid displaying his obvious pain. The two grocery shoppers get up and leave together. The waiter approaches the table, "Can I get you something to drink?" The boyfriend watches, defeated, as he reaches into his inside jacket pocket to reveal to the waiter an engagement ring.
