Everything.

Everything.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

a girl's lost love.

"

Everything
you wanted to keep

you stuffed
in the battered suitcase

and locked it up.
Things you didn’t want

were left to rot
or go to waste

or be carried off
by some other.

Everything
you wanted to keep

was locked inside,
except his love,

which
like some precious gem

was stolen by a lesser girl,
and you were left

the wound of heart.
It bleeds through

the dress’s top
and no amount

of pressing hands
to your breast

or pushed prayers
will stop.
