NO WELCOME.

NO WELCOME.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN GRIEVES FOR HER LOST LOVER.

"

She pushed back the bed covers
And felt the morning breeze touch

Her skin. The long night had been
A mixture of tossing and turning

And waking into a darkness where
He was not. She could pretend it

Never happened; he never met his
Death in such a way, that he would

Return as he always did with a kiss in
The night with warm lips and soft

Whispered words. She could always
Imagine him creeping into bed and

Enfolding her in his arms and kissing
Her neck, or better still turn on her

Back and let him have access to her
Small garden of Eve, her center, to

Bring him in, let him make love and
Enter. She looked toward the light,

The curtains permitting slithers of
Sunlight to flow through, to fall on

Floor, on bed and her face, like some
God’s blessing, some god’s good grace.

She pulled back the covers, snuggled
Down in bed’s warmth and smell;

To keep out for a few more hours,
The day’s welcome, another day's hell
