CALYPSO COULD ONCE.A Poem by Terry CollettAGING BEAUTY AND MEN.Calypso. Calypso could once have brought With the sparkle of her eyes the hot love and Desire of men. However, age and time Had brought wrinkles and sag to skin. There was Memory of love of course. And sin. Hair Had to be stained to keep away the grey, Lipstick to show where her lips began and Ended. Cosmetics gave show but never Mended. She sits now and waits for some men To show; hoping they’ll notice her and her Fading beauty if not her glow. They’ll not Of course, they’ll walk on by with turn of head, Look for younger girls instead. Calypso Remembers how men would queue to take her Out or kiss her skin or hold her hand or Take the promise of her words to bed; now The men she thinks will queue to kiss or make Hot love to her are all within her head. © 2011 Terry Collett |
