Outside in the snow
Blackbirds and blue tits
Search for food and there
Watching your youngest
Daughter in the snow
Building her snowman
Anny Horowitz
Circles around small
Hands clutched in front her
Blue eyes moving with
Your daughter’s movements
Her blond hair touched with
Specks of snow her shoes
Making no footprints
Leaving no clue as
Looking up she stares
At you across the
Space between them and
You peering through the
Snowy drift mouthing
Words with ghostly lips
But heard by none and
Bringing her small hands
Together at her
Fingertips she looks
On once more at your
Daughter’s endeavours
The slow mounting pile
On pile of handfuls
Of snow as the chill
Wind brushes up small
Drifts of snow and you
Watching them both out
There in cold and snow
One full of childish
Glee engrossed in her
Small snowman building
The other ghostly
Looking on walking
Round wanting to join
In the fun and games
Scanning your daughter’s
Rising breath maybe
Remembering her
Own fun and games in
Snow those years ago
Before her cruel death
In Auschwitz snow.
