DEGAS DANCER.

DEGAS DANCER.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MAN BUYS A DEGAS PAINTING PRINT BECAUSE OF HIS SISTER.

"

He bought the print
Of the Degas painting

Because the dancer
Reminded him of his

Sister Celia who died
Of cancer he saw her

In the dancer’s stance
The way she stood the

Way she held her head
And had her hair drawn

Up in a bun and coloured
Even to the way her eyes

Looked down at the floor
In deep thought or funny

Musing on some idle fact
Of small import to others

Than herself and placing
The print on the wall above

His bed he could remember
Her as she was at best at her

Female games or in the dance
She loved not buried not dead.
