ANNY AT THE SUPERSTORE.

ANNY AT THE SUPERSTORE.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

ANNY HOROWITZ SEEN IN A SUPERSTORE AND GHOSTLY.

"

Anny Horowitz is there once
More in the crowded superstore
Wandering just ahead along the
Aisle of cakes and rolls and bread

Looking at the huge harvest stacked
High on shelves wrapped and labelled
And priced all sizes and brands and
Makes and smelling good and fresh

And you pushing the store trolley just
Behind notice how no one else seems
To see her wanderings her small hand
Touching bread her fingering of cakes

And then she’s off and along the aisle
Of toys and dolls her blue eyes wide her
Mouth open in spark surprise and staring
At all these playthings these games and

Dressed up dolls and babies wrapped in
Shawls and boxed up tight and stands in
Deep wonderment hands behind her back
And turns and sees you watching and moves

On but beside the trolley now her ghostly
Hand holding the side her gazing at people
Passing by who do not notice her phantom
Clothes her blonde hair tied neat in bows

Or her blue eyed innocent stare wandering
Beside you in this crowded store saying nothing
No words no utterances just that slow steady
Pace of one foot forward in old fashioned

Shoes step by step and that slow turn of her
Head and gaze of ghostly eyes and that wild
Wonderment of you seeing her and her full of
That childlike bubbling over the sides surprise.
