HER FATHER KNOWS.A Poem by Terry CollettA GIRL AND HER FATHER AND WHAT HE DOESN'T KNOW.Her father knows nothing Of a woman’s heart its deep Longings its fathoming fingers Its plunging into depths of the Heart’s knowledge and feel and Sense its always wanting more And more recompense for loss Or loveless attitude or wanton Ways of yesterdays but Father Knows only the ways of men the Labelling of things or matters his Scientific bent his always dear Borrowing of money or ideas Or power or these in turn lent But of her he knows nothing Except she flowers pure and Good as gold retains her worth Not giving away cheaply her Kingdom of Eve her crimson Womb that she may know who Within her narrow bed may sow. © 2010 Terry Collett |
