THINKING ON MILLIE.A Poem by Terry CollettA MAN AND HIS WIFE PART.Clifton inhaled on the cigarette Thought of Millie and her going Off with that pianist feller with The face like the surface of the Moon and not even giving a hint That things weren’t that good Between them anymore and Although they rowed a lot their Words disturbed the neighbours And Millie would sing so loud in The bath and out of tune and off Key and yes he’d thump on the Bathroom door and yell at her To keep it down and she’d scream Back for him to go suck himself And then there was the time When they’d made love and he Said I want to father your child And she said I’d rather mate with A moose but still he didn’t think Things were that bad between Them and was most surprised To come home from a busy day At the office to find a scribbled Note from Millie saying I’ve gone Off with Pete the pianist your Dinner’s in the freezer your dirty Washing’s in the tub see you Sometime never this side of Nowhere and feeling pretty sick Inside and rather numb and Melancholy Clifton put on his Favourite Johnny Cash record And poured himself a drink and Lit another cigarette to help him Deeply think and then forget. © 2010 Terry CollettAuthor's Note
