I LOVE.

I LOVE.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A NUN AND HER LOVE AND MEMORIES.

"

I love the dawn,
Said Sister Rose,

It awakens like a
Lover’s kiss; its light

Pushes darkness where
My father dwells, his

Footsteps on the stairs
Of my childhood, still

Vibrates in my memory’s
Cells. The sun warms me

Like a child’s first words,
Like a girl’s first kiss; the

Light through the cracks
Of the shutters, pierces

My dark room like a sharp
Spear. My father’s hands

Crawled my childhood flesh
Like a cruel crab, his fingers

Foraging the forest of my
Young girl’s hairs, his

Whispered words taunting
And tormenting; the holiness

Of Lauds lights up my life,
The movingness of Matins

Makes all things well, my
Father’s soul soured by his

Dark deeds burns in its hell.
I love the eve of day, said

Sister Rose, the peace of
Compline touches my heart

And soul, moves me to praise,
Pushes the days of my father’s

Touch to the furthest reach,
His whispered words to the

Silence of the grave; the last
Ave echoing on the evening

Breeze, the shadowy trees
Dancing like children in the

Moon’s soft glow, the stars
The bridesmaids of my married

Bliss, the Crucified my groom,
And his saving touch and kiss.
