CONVERSING.A Poem by Terry CollettA GANGSYER & HIS MOLL ARGUING.What are you wearing? Eddie asks. Clara Looks at him. Wearing? What do you mean what Am I mean wearing? Yeah, That’s what I asked. The New dress you bought me, That’s what I am wearing. I bought you that? Yeah, You bought me this. Don’t You remember that? I didn’t buy you That two bit dress; I’d Have remembered a Dress like that. You chose It for me, Eddie; You pointed it out, Took it off the peg For me, and said it Suited me fine. I’d Not choose a dress like That, Eddie says, I Don’t like the colour, It don’t suit you; don’t Match your eyes. Clara Sighs. She does a twirl, The dress lifts slightly. But you must like it, Eddie, you picked the Darn dress. Eddie chews On his cigar; looks At Clara with his Steady stare. I don’t Like it, take it back. Back? Clara echoes. Yeah, and tell the shcmuck You sold it to you I want the money Back today. Clara Pouts and looks down at The dress. I like it, Eddie, can’t I keep It? I won’t wear it When I’m with you; just Wear it when I’m out On my own. On your Own? Eddie says, and Let other guys see You in it? Let their Eyes get the heat on Seeing you in that? Please, Eddie? Clara Moans, Please, can‘t I keep It? Eddie nods his Head slowly. Ok, Baby, but don’t do That twirl thing again It shows off your thighs, I don’t want that to Be seen by others Guys. Clara kisses Eddie’s cheek. They have This kind of dumb s**t Conversation each And every week. © 2010 Terry Collett |
