FROM PARIS WITH LOVE.

FROM PARIS WITH LOVE.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN IN PARIS WRITES A POSTCARD TO HER BOYFRIEND.

"

You don’t know what to say
To Clive on the postcard which
You picked out the at the foyer

In the Hotel Chatham because
The woman on the front looks a
Bit like you right down to the

Hairstyle and eyes. He’ll expect
Some small details of your stay.
Tell him what you’ve done today.

Well, leave out the part where
Marcel kissed you on the Eiffel
Tower. And don’t mention the

Lovemaking in the creaky bed,
Which had you and Marcel in stitches,
Especially at 2am in the morning

Before even the birds were out
In chorus. You can mention the
Louvre and the paintings you saw.

Clive’d like that he’s an art nut and
Bore. Write about the cafés and the
Artists you’ve seen. Mention briefly

The room, the lovely meals, and the
Old lady you see each night with her
Poodle sitting alone in the bar, and

Yes, say Margaret’s well and enjoying
The stay, but don’t mention she’s gone
Onto Marseilles. The thought of you

In Paris alone (apart from Marcel),
Will bring him with his overbearing
Ways and snoopy nose. You pick up

The pen, dip it in the ink, and sit and
Think. Dear Clive…Marcel’s quite the
Man…we made it four times last night

…The weather’s fine and the food is
Very good. I’d write more about me
And Paris if I could. Time’s run out

And I need my bed. Weary here. Night
Night, Clive. Sending kisses instead.
