FATHER WAS ENOUGH.A Poem by Terry CollettA GIRL AND HER MEN AND FATHER.Your father was enough To put you off men for Life, but he didn’t, some How you manage to get Over that and still see Something worth perusing In that gender, although it Took a while to get by the Jackasses who seemed to Be your father’s clones, With his kind of outlook And his type of moans, And his odd expressions, But now and again, some Guy turns up and you date Him and wait for the bad Points to show or the hands All over you kind of thing, But some surprise you and Keep it clean and show you Respect and pay their way And never tell those smutty Jokes or have those pokes Or make suggestions of the Let’s get to bed and have Sex kind, but those guys Are rare and even then there Is something not quite right, Some aspect about the way They stand or stare or speak Or talk of their mothers or Their former lovers or the Odd girls they nearly wed, But didn’t. Your father was Enough to put you off men For life, but you always find Something beyond his failure And weakness and dull eyed Stare and wicked ways, some Guys who last a date or two Or maybe make it to a month Or so, until some little oddity Or weakness or dark side shows, And then you dump them and go Find another, until, maybe, some Day you’ll give up, and marry a Loser and bad guy like your mother. © 2010 Terry Collett |
