EACH PART OF YOU.

EACH PART OF YOU.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN AND HER OVERBEARING HUSBAND.

"

Aman knows each part
Of you and your month

And of your menstrual
Coming. He always thinks

Himself the master of
Your soul. Amala, he

Says, you must not
Watch the way of other

Women or seek them out
For trivial words and

Tongue wagging. You
Ask nothing of his time

Or wisdom or his firm
Overbearing manner or

His strict code of behaviour
That holds you in check.

You watch the sun and
The coming and going

Of seasons, see him with
His father and men and

The unwinding of words
And rules and laws. You

Listen to the birdsong
Outside the window,

The blowing of the wind
Through nearby trees, Aman

And his father having words,
The coming of thunder, the

Lightening of his eyes. Your
Mother worked her fingers

To the bone, you often dream
You set her free like a caged

Bird only to be pecked and
Troubled by dangerous skies.
