i was moved to tears reading this one. and i read and re-read and every single time, she appeared with shadows and pain buried deep inside her blue eyes; and she wrote her name in her "endearing little girl handwriting" in a burning shade of smoke.
the impact and intensity of this sketch is inexplicable - there aren't words enough to capture the essence of these 30-odd words in black and white.
its only a sighing wish for an escape into the blue of her eyes that was flung up to heaven from me, as i read. its a masterfully expressed, eloquent, intense, powerful and overwhelming verse - the economy of words to convey the intensity is sheer genius. stunned and speechless i am!

I read many books from the people who survived the death camps. I have met people who lived to tell their stories to em when I was in Europe. Their eyes spoke with great sadness for what man did to another man for the hate of religion. My poem "Never again" was based on a conversation of a survivor who told me. The Jews who lived had to become strong to insure never again for this deed to happen. The photo and description of the girl made me wish for the world to been kinder. Thank you for the photo and the story.
