WHAT LILY LIKES.A Poem by Terry CollettA GIRL LIKES TO WEAR HER MOTHER'S CLOTHES AND HATS.Lilly likes to wear Her mother’s clothes Especially her hats, and The flowered one with The large brim is her Favourite and she lies On her mother’s bed And looks at herself in The mirror, staring back With her left cheek resting On her hand, wishing it Was hers, wanting to be Wearing it when meeting Friends or Frank with his Beady eyes and large black Moustache and she wonders What he would say about the hat And clothes and what he’d Do if he could see her now On Mother’s bed lying there Semi clad with just the hat And little else, and what would Mother say if she found her Lying there on her bed wearing The hat and the thin slip and Looking so seductive at her Image in the mirror, but Frank’s Away, and there goes the front Door and Mother on the stairs In a kind of rush, her voice Calling and Lilly falling from The bed and banging her head On the floor, and gazing up Semi clad and the hat on her Head, and her mother by the Door, her eyes with angry tigers And her voice rising, not in Conversation or idle chat, but Ranting and hitting out at Lily, For wearing her see through slip And large brimmed flowered hat. © 2010 Terry Collett |
