LOST WORDS.

LOST WORDS.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A WOMAN'S AFTER THOUGHTS ON A LOST LOVE.

"

It was over,
The planned talk and
Conversation;
Nothing more to

Say, he stood up
Pushed back the chair
And walked away.
But it only

Came to you the
Next morning once
You had had time
To sleep on it

That you thought of
All the things you
Could have said to
Him, all the things

That had been on
Your mind for months,
But you hadn’t
Thought about it

The night before,
It seemed not to
Have come to mind,
The whole of the

Conversation
Had been full of
Taut nerves and high
Emotions and

Anger and things
Said which shouldn’t
And things not said
Which should have been.

It was over.
Yes, that much was
Clear, the words had
Tumbled to that

Fact the fraught night
Before, but things
Had been left un
Said, the air was

Full of anger
Still, like the foul
Smelling bodies
Of the long since
Unburied dead.

...and did I mention ... brilliantly done, the theme presents perfectly given what I said in review #1. :)

These lines:
Nothing more to

Say, he stood up
Pushed back the chair
And walked away.

... to my way of thinking form the core of this poem, and every other word around them is a bit like birds fluttering and trying to make sense. It suspends in space, tries to have an ending with a death metaphor, but you sense the kind of rebirth inherent in trying to heal from such a trauma.
