BOMBAY 1968.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A GIRL AND HER SICK FATHER IN BOMBAY IN 1968.

"

Aditi touches your

Brow; her fingers cool

The sickness of your

Disease. Her kisses

Like prayers, please the gods,

Hold out hope for some

Cure. Her words fill the

Room as a soft breeze

In summer; her low

Laughter melts the cold

Iceberg of your doubts;

Her eyes are the small

Mirrors to your soul

Not hers; there is a

Gentleness in her

Stride from window to

Bed; her hand is raised

In a sad goodbye;

She has seen your death

In the palm of your

Hand, in the colour

Of your skin; there is

A carrion bird

Outside the window

Waiting on black wings

To enter within.
