SLEEP & GRIEF.

SLEEP & GRIEF.

A Poem by Terry Collett
"

A MOTHER'S VISITATION TO HER DEAD BABY'S ROOM.

"

Even in her sleep
She dreamed she walked to
Baby’s room and looked

Down in the cot and
There she was with hands
And feet and open

Eyed stare, then she’d look
Back again and she
Wasn’t there, just that

Empty space, the slight
Impression where the
Baby had once lain,

The sense of smell that
Baby’s have which a
Mother’s nose can hold

And feel. Even in
The light of day she’d
Walk along that way

And open the door
And peek in just in
Case she’d dreamt it all,

The death, cold white
Face, the silent room.
Some days she managed

To walk by the room
And leave the door closed
And not peer in or

Give food for further
Grief or hurt and pain.
Then next day she would

Open up the door
And feel the wound of
Grief split wide again.

A deep sadness in this poem. Losing a children to anything would leave a sad place in a parent heart. A strong poem and you told a sad story. A excellent poem. Thank you.

There is a peaceful tenderness to your poem, the pain and grief so richly evident makes this writing both sad and quite powerful. I like how you broke the sentence/stanzas. Excellent writing, friend.
