![]() Molly and Her Other Self 1976.A Poem by Terry Collett![]() A murderer and mentally disabled woman and the shrink 1976![]() Some days your other self said nothing and went off into the dark chambers of your mind and left you to face the shrink alone in his room, accompanied by two nurses. The shrink whose name you forgot as soon as he said it, sat behind the large desk, reading your file, now and then gazing at you. Your late boyfriend’s sister whom you suffocated in her bed, sat in the other chair by the window, peering at you with that disappointed gaze. You had liked her, but your other self saw her as threat, and together you suffocated her with the soft pillow over head. She struggled for a while, but your other self was strong and determined, and slowly the victim passed away with her limp hands flopping by her side. The shrink began by asking you how you were and how the medication was working and seeing as you did not reply, the nurse answered what she could in place of your silence. The shrink had green speckled tie, which didn’t match his yellow shirt, but you said nothing, just gazed at it. Suddenly your other self arose from the depths of your mind and said Grab that godawful tie and strangle him before the nurses can come to his aid. But you ignored her, looked at Anne sitting in the other chair with her haunted eyes and that gaze of despair. © 2025 Terry Collett |
