Lily and the Shrink 1961.

Lily and the Shrink 1961.

A Poem by Terry Collett

She never saw it that way,

it was always

somehow different,

and no amount

of pill popping

was going to change that,

altered it slightly,

but never the same,

at least so she thought.

The shrink, some thin guy,

who had a sweet smile,

tried to get inside her mind,

but he got no further than

her front door of consciousness,

and so he thought

her beyond help

and prescribed

her a new pill

which she took,

and nothing

happened, at least

not in any way

helpful to him,

and to her

the room became

full of weird people,

and the room seemed

to expand,

and it took her hours

to get across the room,

and when she did

there was always

some headcase

who got there before her,

and the new shrink,

she believed or thought

was covered in dark fur.
