Benny Reflected 1962.

Benny Reflected 1962.

A Poem by Terry Collett

A dull sky and morning.

Benny gazed

from his bedroom window.

His younger brother

was already downstairs

having breakfast;

he could hear music

from the radio.

School soon

his last few months

before leaving.

Juliet was leaving too

had a job lined up

in the town in some store.

He smiled recalling

the first time he’d seen her

on the school bus

and how she

kept looking at him

and smiling.

Now they were soon

Working in different places:

she in town and he

in the local garage.

His mother called him

for breakfast.

He sighed

and went downstairs.

That first kiss

that Christmas

while carol singing,

beneath moonlight

and chilling night.
