![]() Geoffrey and Truth 2022.A Poem by Terry Collett![]() A retired secret service agent reflects on his past.![]()
He guessed it would
in itself not matter if he pretended to his wife that he worked for a firm that made old world furniture, and that this would need him now and then going abroad to sort out things if it needed. Looking back now, him retired and his wife dead, such a concept looking back now seems quite shallow, because his wife never questioned his job, nor why he went abroad in the first place. He couldn't say what his job was nor why he was often away. Officially he didn't work for whom he did, everything was so hush hush, his work hidden from public view doing the work he had to do. Even now years later he can say nothing of what he did then, sitting in that coffee cafe sipping latte, watching the world about him now unaware he once moved in darker circles, keeping them safe from enemies they didn't know because nothing would ever show.
